Growing up, we called these cookies "Tupperware Cookies" because my mom got this recipe at a Tupperware Party. I traditionally make them on Valentine's Day, Halloween, and Christmas.
1 ½ cup sifted powdered sugar
1 cup margarine
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
½ tsp. almond flavoring (or ½ tsp. more vanilla)
2 ½ cups sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
Mix sugar and margarine. Add egg and flavorings, mix thoroughly. Sift dry ingredients together and stir in. Chill several hours (2-3.) Heat oven 375 degrees F. Divide dough in half and roll out on lightly floured pastry sheet or board, very thin for crisp of ½” thick for a thicker, softer cookie. Place on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 7 to 8 minutes or until golden brown. Cool – decorate.
